With reference to my note of the 21st Septem❤ ber last in reply to Your Excellency's enquiry of the 31st August respecting Monsieur Volpicelli, the Italian Consul General at Hongkong, I have the honour to state that according to a despatch which has now been received from the Governor of Hongkong he informed Monsieur Volpicelli in August isst that in view of his repeated visi te to the German Consul at Canton and his refusal
to give an undertaking not to continue them he would not be allowed in future to leave Hongkong for
Canton.
Monsieur Volpicelli is stated to have replied
that he would remove his Consulate General to Can-
ton. I am enquiring whether he has actually done
The Governor states that he would not object t this step if Monsieur Volpicelli did not visit
Hongkong again during the war.
